WHINO is an exciting, artful setting, that is both a restaurant and a retail art gallery with designer collectibles. The gallery focuses on lowbrow/pop surrealist genre. This handsome contemporary space is designed by the owner, architect and art curator, Shane Pomajambo. WHINO is filled with original, large scale murals, created by Woes Martin of Los Angeles; Dragon76 of Brooklyn, Caratoes from Hong Kong, and local Virginia artist Rodrigo Pradel. What better way to kick off after work fun starting with Executive Chef Terry Natas’ bar favorite snacks such as Skate Wing PoBoy, Wagu Beer Sliders, and the Porchetta Slider, (ranging from $5 to $6), to complete $10 wine tastings of 1.5 ounce pours of four featured wines, exclusively offered at Happy Hour. Featured cocktails at Happy Hour are priced at $8 and include the Sour Puss, Hornitos Tequila, Cardamom House Cordial, Grapefruit Juice, Agave Syrup, Lime Juice, and Club Soda, or the Beam Me Up, Jim Beam Bourbon, Dry Vermouth, Apricot Liqueur, Orange Bitters and GranClassic. Sparking, white, and red wines by the glass are priced at $6 each, with domestic beers offered for $5.

After Hours snacking features Cheesy Polenta Tempertots, Wagu Beef Sliders and Telly’s Gyro (ranging in price from $7 to $12), and these can be enjoyed as nighttime fun begins with a $15 wine tasting which one chooses their own four wines of 1.5 ounce pours by the glass, (with 17 varietals to choose from currently). This $15 tasting is also offered throughout service at WHINO. Spirit tastings of tequila, bourbon and whiskey flights will also be showcased to invite exploration. One can enjoy one ounce pours of different liquors during After Hours. An example is WHINO’s Heaven Hill Bourbon tasting for $20. Each guest receives a one ounce pour of 4 different bourbons: Elijah Craig Bourbon; Elijah Craig Rye; Larceny Bourbon, and Evan Williams Black. The tastings WHINO will be offering, from week-to-week, will vary widely. Upcoming spirits notables such as a Remy Cognac tasting with Louis XIII in September, and a Macallan Tasting are planned for fall 2021.

In addition to these tasting experiences, WHINO will showcase food and beverage ticketed events, that are both delicious and educational. Patrons can explore what events are happening each month by visiting our Events Page to sign up for information and secure tickets. WHINO will be showcasing wine, spirits, and beer events Monday-Wednesday. Events will be ticked and will range in price depending on what they are sampling. Patrons will glean a broader understanding and appreciation for what the restaurant is serving for these special gatherings.

On Thursdays, the restaurant will be offering social events from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. “This allows patrons to expand their weekend with an extra night out,” explains owner Shane Pomajambo. “A good example is WHINO’s Make Your Own Summer event, which is a summer kick- off ticketed event, so patrons can learn how to perfect their own daiquiris, Mai Tais, and Old Fashions so they can continue making those drinks throughout the summer. It is the right time to help facilitate the need to enjoy social centric happenings again, for those who want to put on their going out attire.”

A brief sampling of ticketed spirits, wine, beer and social events starts off with July 6, the Evolution Beer, July 7, Donnafugata Whites and Reds from Volcanic Soil, July 13 is Women Winemakers, July 14 is Sipsmith Gin, July 20 is Summer Crushin It , July 21 is Chianti with Riscasoli; July 22 is Make Your Own Summer, July 26 is Billecart-Salmon, July 27 is DC Brau IPA Showcase; July 29 is Attitude Adjustment with Frederick Wildman, August 2 is Duvel-Ommegang Sours; August 4 is Sicilia Wines, August 10 is Tesoro Tequila Spice Cart, August 17 is Natural Wines.
